Response to the new Stock & Land Spring Beef Week running from August 24 to 28 has exceeded expectations and organisers are delighted with the support from both old and new exhibitors.
Beef Week’s Geoff Phillips said 84 studs from 19 breeds had entered over the five days...
“The response indicates there is a real need for a spring beef week to supplement the highly successful Stock & Land Autumn Beef Week which many seedstock producers have used as their major marketing exercise for the year,” he said.
Despite the poor lead up season, seedstock producers in Victoria and the Riverina have embraced the new Spring Beef Week concept and will be putting forward big displays of cattle for private sale or catalogued for sale in a growing number of spring on-property auctions.
The growing number of southern spring calving herds means that producers are now looking for bulls in spring. There are now over 20 on-property spring bull sales conducted by market focused southern seedstock producers aimed at satisfying growing client demand. In addition buyers are often looking for stud females in spring and many of the properties will have stud females on offer...
Greg Doherty’s 51 year old Tulagi Angus stud at Deniliquin, NSW, a regular participant in Beef Week, will be using Spring Beef Week to display 200 stud female that will be offered online through AuctionsPlus in September.
Mark Greening’s Injemira Herefords at Book Book, NSW, with a large commercial operation turning over 2400 head annually, will be using Spring Beef Week to demonstrate the new Injemira Advantage program aimed at assisting bull clients to maximise returns through price risk management.
Wagyu breeder Wayne Grimshaw will have his Moyhu high marbling cattle on display and for sale on his Meadow Creek property.
Greg Withers of Donna Valley Limousins has specially selected 20 bulls for sale on his beef week day at his Holbrook, NSW, property, while Gippsland Limousin breeder Keith MacCubbin will have 15 working age Cliftonview bulls for sale.
Another Gippsland stud to enter is Carrington Park Angus at Drouin South with displays of their champions from Sydney Royal and National Beef at Bendigo along with bulls and females for sale from their 100 cow seedstock herd.
The Crowleys’ Lilliput Lowlines at Tylden just north of Melbourne will have their recent show champions on display plus their 2007 Melbourne Royal team.
Several first time Beef Week participants have found the spring event more suitable and these include John Kumnick of Jaskum Poll Herefords near Willaura in the Western District. Jaskum was founded in 2004 with females from Kooreh and later additions from Sevenbardot.
Also in the Willaura district will be Chas Armytage’s Delaware Charolais that made a spectacular beef week debut earlier this year selling all the bulls on offer within a few hours of opening.
Brewer Simmentals near Beechworth in the north east will have its large herd of black Simmentals on display. For those looking for traditional Simmentals, they will also be on display as a forerunner to a complete dispersal of that section of the herd later in spring.
Numerous Angus studs with upcoming Spring on property auction sales that will have their sale teams on display during Beef Week including Barwidgee, Coolana, Campbell Farms, Dunoon, Leawood, Te Mania, The Glen, Weeran and Welcome Swallow. Wirruna Poll Herefords at Holbrook will display the cattle in their September 6 sale.
